There's still some stuff I have to do (like tweak the bottom casing, its two parts but you can't tell) and texture the thing. I should be finished when I get back to work tonight.
i would actually physically make the top layer of that.. and make a cylinder underneath with a texture that looks like it.. but thats my opinion.. looks like it will be a tough.. but a very good going out saber before hiding again! i still love that saber arm though!
I booleaned the hell out of this, which is a bad idea because of what it does to the verts and poly's. But I really had no other idea about how to do it. There are three layers. I cloned and rotated them (which screwed with the uv mapping) and there is a core from the main part running up the middle which I made darkened considerably. I gave my metal texture a nice bluish tint and didn't do the noise and blur to give it a very smooth look instead of the brushed look. I was debating on making a nice reflective shader but that'd probably kill the game considering how many faces would have to be calculated.
Over-all I'm very happy with the way it turned out and its been emailed and its ready to go. Also if you can't tell from the screenshot I lowered the blade tag so part of the saber is within the head giving it a nice inner glow.
looks good man... i havent had time to test it out yet.. but i like the way it came out by what the pics look like. that would have been giving me some stress thats for sure!
Ill put it on the page when i get back home in the morning.. (ive actually been updating everything on a 14.4 - 28.8 speed) slow but it works
Hey guys! Good to have a site solely for hilts in JKA! Great work Keshire for the recent hilts too! Anyway, as this is a suggestion forum, I would like to make a few abeit personal suggestions/requests and hopefully you guys can consider...
(1) More staves designs please! Cos' I use them everytime. Perhaps can get someone to do a dual-saber-cum-staff thingy (you know... able to break a staff in half and then combine them at the hilt's ends to form back a staff again...) I know it's going to be difficult, but hey! It could boost this website 10-fold!
(2) How about doing some really nice saber colours? Something along the line of like these shown in http://www.jk2files.com/file.info?ID=23794. What I'm saying is, how cool would it be to play with other solid colours in the rainbow, huh?! I did hear that someone is gonna make a while-saber-colour choice as an isolated icon to choose at startup. I wonder how that dude's getting on with it? Can't remember who it is though.
Great work about this website! It has great potential and I can't wait for it to develope further! It's already in my internet "favourites"!
thanks for the compliments on the site. been trying hard to get the word out for it and thanks to keshire we have a new look too :) kesh is the man!
to answer your questions.
1. Ill try making a staff or 2. its not a hard thing and ill be making a saber tutorial pretty soon so mabey you could even learn to make your own staff and upload it here too!.
I dont know if there would be a way to reattach the staff after its broken... actually.. come to think of it.. even though i know it is possible to break one in half.. ive never ever seen it happen to me. odd huh? however i think the only way is to actually mess with the SDK which i have little programming skills to do so (SDK, i think, is the source code for jka i could be wrong on the letters though)
2. although saber modifications are cool at most times.. unfortunatly not everyone likes them. mostly because they modify all the sabers effects. however theres a select few that add or edit just one. i had one on the site before the 1.01 version of JKA came out (invisisaber) which actually took away the orange color so your real blade swords would look like real swords. but unfortunatly ive tried to keep away from putting blade mods on the site since then....HOWEVER if a good one comes along again.. i surely wouldnt be against adding it on. my preferance would also be a white blade.. but added to the existing blades.. and not just replacing one. i will definatly keep a eye out for you on the blade mods though
